THE RESEARCH MANAGEMENT OFFICE


2002

On 1 June 2002, the Research Secretariat was established under the Institute of Oceanography (INOS), College University of Science and Technology Malaysia (KUSTEM). At that time, the Research Secretariat functioned to manage research activities, particularly in handling research grant management   obtained from the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation (MOSTI) and the Ministry of Higher Education Malaysia (KPTM), as well as the management of programmes for the promotion and cultivation of research culture.


2004

After going through several phases of management, on 18 October 2004, the Research Secretariat was upgraded to the Research Management Centre (PPP) and established as a dedicated Responsibility Centre (PTJ) to manage research at KUSTEM in a more structured manner. 


2005

The process of strengthening research management at KUSTEM continued when, on 13 February 2005, the university undertook a restructuring of research management and administration. Through this restructuring, KUSTEM appointed a Dean of Research and Innovation Affairs (HEPI). By establishing this position    all research programs and activities can be coordinated in a more systematic and focused manner, thereby strengthening the research culture at the university.   at the university, they can be planned more strategically and monitored more effectively.  

Dengan pewujudan jawatan Dekan dan Pejabat Dekan HEPI, secara pentadbirannya, Pusat Pengurusan Penyelidikan (PPP) di pertanggungjawabkan  dibawah pentadbiran dan pemantauan Dekan HEPI.


2007

In line with the branding of KUSTEM to UMT in 2007, UMT has created the position of Assistant Vice Chancellor, Research & Innovation. Through the establishment of this position, the structure of research and innovation at UMT has become increasingly important, and the quality of researchers and research can be better planned and enhanced.


2009

On 1st June 2009, the Research Management Centre was once again given the mandate and trust with an expanded function to include innovation management, focusing on intellectual property management and consultancy services.


2012

Meanwhile, in 2012, the Ministry of Higher Education approved the position of Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research & Innovation) in line with UMT’s achievements in the field of research.

2019

In 2019, PPP became known as the Centre for Research, Innovation and Management (RMIC) (Centre for Research, Innovation and Management, CRIM).

With the creation of this position, all research programs and activities at the university could be planned more strategically and monitored more effectively.
With the establishment of the Dean and the Office of the Dean of HEPI, the Research Management Centre (PPP) became responsible under the administration and supervision of the Dean of HEPI.


2007

In line with the branding of KUSTEM to UMT in 2007, UMT has created the position of Assistant Vice Chancellor, Research & Innovation. Through the creation of this position, the structure of research & innovation at UMT is increasingly focused. With that, the quality of researchers and research can be planned and improved.


2009

On June 1, 2009, once again the Research Management Center was given a mandate and trust with the expansion of its functionality to innovation management focusing on intellectual property management and consulting services.


2012

Pada tahun 2012, pihak Kementerian Pendidikan Tinggi telah meluluskan jawatan Timbalan Naib Canselor (Penyelidikan & Inovasi) selari dengan pencapaian UMT dalam bidang penyelidikan. PPP kemudiannya di kenali sebagai Pusat Pengurusan Penyelidikan dan Inovasi atau Research Management and Innovation Centre (RMIC).


2013

In parallel with the new structuring in early 2013, RMIC also underwent a structural transformation and was later known as the Research Management Center (RMC). Its functions are maintained and given a more focused mandate. The Innovation Sector has been directed under a more focused administrative center which is the Center for Knowledge Transfer and Industrial Networking (PPIJI). RMC is led by a Director and assisted by officers (Professional & Support).


2015

In 2015, the Innovation Sector was reintroduced into the profile and became RMIC again.


2019

In October 2019, the Research Management and Innovation Centre (RMIC) was renamed to the Centre for Research & Innovation Management (CRIM).


2021

In October 2021, CRIM was renamed to the Office of Management of Research & Innovation or Pejabat Pengurusan Penyelidikan & Inovasi (PPPI).


2022

In January 2022, PPP was renamed as the Research Management Office (RMO) because the Innovation portfolio had been placed under a separate management entity responsible for managing intellectual property, commercialization, marketing strategy, and incubation.
